I cannot recall at what age the dream started, maybe it was when I was old enough as I can remember, I had not considered a path other than medicine. A few of the factors that contributed to this are things I observed growing up in Iloilo and Leyte. One of the few cars we had seen was owned by a doctor; those beautiful houses made of stone were owned by local physicians. I wanted that kind of life, I wanted to experience donning their smock gowns.

Choosing OB-Gyn as my specialty is quite the story. My favorite highschool teacher, by the name of Ma’am Coronacion Leda, would often share to others that I went to OB-Gyn because of my skilled hands when it came to sewing and dressmaking. I wonder if I would have been accepted into my residency program has this been my answer. It was during my clerkship where i develop my love affair with delivering babies. Being part of bringing new life into this world, seeing the eyes of first-time fathers, mothers, and grandparents light up as their sights on this tiny human. Maybe the gift of cake and ice cream after the delivery was also the contributing factor. These experiences, along with several others have overall influenced my decision into becoming a stork in people’s lives.

I consider ACEMC-Butuan as my baby, I guess it runs along with my specialty. Like a duckling set out to swim and survive in unknown waters, our ACE Chairman, Dr. Amado Enriquez Jr, asked that I explore Butuan City as a new prospect for building another ACE Hospital. Without hesitation, I set out on my mission and not only did I survive, I learned so much about myself. Six years later, together with doctors from Manila, Iloilo, and Butuan, we were finally able to put up this ambitious project. Just like a mother with her children, I want the best for ACEMC-Butuan; for it to be known internationally, for it to deliver services with compassion and competence while embodying out MISSION, VISION, and CORE VALUES. To GOD be the GLORY.
