PATIENT’S RIGHTS
- The right to receive considerate, respectful, and compassionate healthcare in a safe setting regardless of age, sex, gender, religion, ethnicity, political affiliation, disability, or capacity to pay free from all forms of abuse, neglect, or ill-treatment.
- The right to be assigned to a competent doctor/physician and be told the names of all healthcare team members who are qualified to provide diagnosis, treatment, and medical advice. Likewise, they have the right to know their hospital and physician fees and receive information about the possibility of financial assistance.
- The right to notify a family member or person of their choice and the chosen doctor of their admission to the hospital.
- The right to have someone remain with them during their hospital stay unless it compromises their or others’ rights, safety, or health.
- The right to exercise their spiritual and cultural beliefs within the capacity and rules of the hospital/medical center.
- The right to be informed and given consent before any non-emergency procedure or research/experiment or to refuse such.
- The right to privacy and confidentiality of their medical records according to laws, as well as in care discussions, examinations, and treatments, and the right to see or get a copy of their medical records except those records restricted by law.
- The right to request for an escort during physical examinations.
- The right to be represented by someone (assignee) to decide on their behalf when the circumstances warrant.
- The right to ask about and be informed of the complaint process and express grievances without fear of recrimination or reprisal. They are encouraged to speak directly to personal information, including any changes in address, telephone numbers, employment, insurance, or payor source.
Patient’s Responsibilities
- To be considerate of the rights and property of other patients and staff and to adhere to smoking and visitation policies.
- To maintain the privacy of health information regarding other patients acquired during the patient stay.
- To provide accurate and complete information about the patient’s past and present health history, medications, illnesses, and hospitalizations.
- To Comply faithfully with the required documents from his/her insurance carriers or managed care companies, and to comply with these documents prior to the date of discharge.
- To be courteous to ACEMC-Bxu staff and respect ACEMC-Bxu property.
- To comply truthfully to his/her promise to settle financial obligations or alternative arrangement with his/her private doctors and private hospitals.
- To follow ACEMC-Bxu rules, regulations, and policies affecting patient care and conduct.
- To keep appointments and cooperate with the hospital. If the patient needs to cancel an appointment, he/she should do so at least 24 hours before his/her appointment time or within the time frame required by the hospital.
- To accept the consequences of his/her own decisions and actions if he/she refuses treatment or does not comply with the instruction given by the hospital.
- To inform the physician that the patient wants to transfer to another healthcare provider or facility.
